40-Hour Domestic Violence Training
The state of California requires individuals working with victims of domestic violence to complete 40 hours of domestic violence training (State Evidence Code 1037.1).
Dare2Hope, Inc. offers a domestic violence training to meet this California Evidence Code. The training will provide you with information on “History of domestic violence, civil and criminal law as it relates to domestic violence, the domestic violence victim-counselor privilege and other laws that protect the confidentiality of victim records and information, societal attitudes towards domestic violence, peer counseling techniques, housing, public assistance and other financial resources available to meet the financial needs of domestic violence victims, and referral services available to domestic violence victims” (Evidence Code 1037.2). Upon successful completion of the training, you will receive a certificate of completion.
Note: A volunteer’s completion of 40-hour training does not guarantee immediate placement. Placement will be based on background check and skill set needed for appropriate program availability and volunteer desired program and position placement.

Payment Policy:
The cost of the training is $200 per person; this includes a copy of the training manual. Replacement copies of the training manual are $25 each.
Due to the resources devoted by Dare2Hope and participating instructors, payment will not be refunded to participants that withdraw from the domestic violence training after the day 2.
Volunteers:
Volunteers and employees of Dare2Hope that make a 12-month commitment of volunteer service or employment to Dare2Hope, Inc. will have the cost of training waived (see note below). Their certificate of completion will be held at Dare2Hope until the completion of their 12-month service commitment. The volunteer is expected to pay $50 for the training resources and a $100 deposit that will be refunded after their 12-month commitment. After the volunteer has fulfilled their 12-months of the volunteer commitment, their deposit of $100 will be returned to them. Any volunteer unable to complete their 12-month commitment will forfeit their deposit in order to receive their certificate early.
Note- Volunteer refers to those who have made a commitment to Dare2Hope, Inc., not to a specific volunteer program at Dare2Hope.
Partnering Agencies:
Dare2Hope will provide the Domestic Violence training to staff of other domestic violence shelters and agencies that provide free services to our clients for a reduced fee of $50 (covering cost of training material and facility rental). Dare2Hope does not extend this discount to volunteers of these programs.
Community Agencies and Individuals:
Dare2Hope does provide the Domestic Violence training to members of the community who are interested in taking the course who are not employed or volunteer at Dare2Hope, Inc. However, space in the class is reserved first for Dare2Hope staff and volunteers. The community is welcomed to reserve any remaining space. The course fee is $200 and includes the cost of all training resources.
